Publication Grants
agora – Vienna Philological and Cultural Studies
An open access and print series from the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies.
Scientific publishing practices are facing an ever-increasing demand for digital open access publications, primarily from funding bodies and publication rankings. This is accompanied by a commitment to quality assurance through peer review procedures. Although the demand for greater accessibility of academic publications is fundamentally welcome, it would be wrong to hastily abandon the traditions and advantages of an established academic culture of printed books.
About agora
agora is a monographic series by the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies that responds to these challenges and aims to represent the entire academic spectrum of the faculty as a publication platform. agora is open to members of the faculty (including externally funded employees) as well as to external persons with a connection to the faculty (such as former members, visiting researchers, visiting lecturers, members of research collaborations). agora will publish anthologies and monographs, including dissertations. Festschriften, textbooks and translations of previously published works are excluded.
Type of funding
The plan is to support approximately five monographs/anthologies per year that have undergone a double-blind peer review process organised by the Dean's Office and supported by the faculty's Scientific Advisory Board. The print version will be published by Praesens-Verlag in Vienna, which will include the volumes in its programme and, in addition to the ISBN, also guarantee the assignment of a DOI for the open access version. The University Library of Vienna will be responsible for making the works available electronically in the central portals (Phaidra, OAPEN) and distributing them using the latest reference tools.
Financing
There are no costs for the authors. This form of publication support by the faculty is made available in addition to the usual printing subsidies in accordance with the budget guidelines.
