Archiving data

Long-term archiving in PHAIDRA

In the institutional repository PHAIDRA, you can upload different document types, apply metadata, provide them with a suitable license and archive them permanently. https://datamanagement.univie.ac.at/en/about-phaidra/ (information) and https://phaidra.univie.ac.at/ (repository)

Information about what metadata are possible in PHAIDRA can be found on https://datamanagement.univie.ac.at/forschungsdatenmanagement/metadaten/

u:scholar

offers an interface to PHAIDRA specialized on scientific publications and can be used for primary and
secondary publications. Your input will be functionally and technically checked by the Open Access Office. openaccess.univie.ac.at/en/publication-services/uscholar/ (information) and uscholar.uni_vie.ac.at (repository)

Discipline-specific data archives

EDA, the Ethnographic Data Archive, https://eda.univie.ac.at/, and AUSSDA, the
Austrian Social Science Data Archive, https://aussda.at/en/, offer discipline-specific services and consulting. Depending on the type of data you collect and the perspectives of your research, those archives might also offer services to you as a member of PhilKult.

Selection of a repository

If the repositories of the University of Vienna are not suitable for you for certain reasons, we will gladly advise you on the selection process. In the re3data Registry of Research Data Repositories you can search for repositories according to certain criteria - such as subject area, permitted file types, metadata standards, language...

One quality criterion is the CoreTrustSeal, with which a repository proves that it meets certain criteria for trustworthiness in a multi-stage process.

Persistent Identifiers

Persistent identifiers permanently identify a specific digital or physical resource (such as datasets,  publications, persons...), even if, for example, the location / affiliation changes. The University of Vienna offers various persistent identifiers: Handle (automatically for all document types in PHAIDRA); DOI (upon request either before or after uploading to PHAIDRA); URN (for specific document types). https://doi-service.univie.ac.at/en/persistent-identifier/
